Welcome to Big Island-Hawaii

The purpose of this blog is to inform radio amateurs on Hawaii Island and the Hawaii Island community about the activities of Amateur/Ham Radio operators in Hawaii County.

The blog will publicize both Amateur Radio club events and private Amateur Radio projects on Hawaii Island, including ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) activities, club events, VE testing programs, DX-peditions, community/public service events, Field Day programs, and other outreach efforts to our Hawaii Island community.

Hopefully, the information supplied by you and distributed by me (Russ Roberts-KH6JRM) as PIO will make residents more aware of our commitment to maintaining emergency communications on Hawaii Island.  To that end, I encourage you to participate in ARES activities, join a local radio club, and encourage others to get their Amateur Radio license.

Amateur Radio operators on Hawaii Island already enjoy a working relationship with the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency and the American Red Cross.  I want to strengthen these ties through a media awareness campaign that will reach our local newspapers, broadcasting stations, and social media. With your help, we can render community service and have fun doing it!
