Students at Lana’i High and Elementary School will talk with
astronauts on the International Space Station via Amateur Radio March
23rd 2023.

This activity is part of the ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International
Space Station) Program, supported by the ARRL, promoting learning
opportunities as part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and
Math) initiative.  This is the first Hawaii school contact in the past
20 years for the state of Hawaii.  Previous ARISS Hawaii school contacts
were made by Kauai Island School in 2001 and Punahou in 2003.
Danyel Erickson, the head teacher for the elementary science club, is
the lead for this project. She has worked with the students and
coordinated the planning and scheduling with ARISS and NASA, for this
once in a lifetime opportunity

A group led by Richard Flagg (AH6NM) supported over 100 contacts since
1990 for schools in 20 states and 17 countries.
