The Care and Feeding of SOTA Chasers

Darryl Holman, WW7D

The popular Summits on the Air (SOTA) award program has hams climbing peaks to make contacts and earn points for activating ever-higher heights. These operations wouldn’t be very exciting without one important element — people to talk to, otherwise known as chasers. SOTA activators need to make a certain number of contacts in order to qualify an activation for points, so it’s worth it for these adventurous hams to operate in a way that’s chaser-friendly. Darryl Holman, WW7D, offers tips on equipment, operating plans, on-air etiquette, and more in “The Care and Feeding of SOTA Chasers.” Read QST

Arc Thames, W4CPD, walks you through the most important settings in “Programming Your VHF/UHF Radio,” and shares tips on how to remember your radio’s process of storing frequencies and settings. Read On the Air
