Egyptians five thousand years ago were perfectly happy storing information using hieroglyphs. They used it for well over three thousand years, but today you’d be hard pressed bumping into anyone on the street who knows one, let alone one thousand characters

2×1 Contest Callsigns for VK

The hard work performed by a sub committee of active contesters, led by The Radio Society of Australia (RASA) has finally been realised with the announcement from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) on the release date for the new 2×1 Contest Callsigns

As a result of recent amendments to the Radiocommunications Act 1992, Australia’s ACMA now has discretion to issue apparatus licences for a term of up to 20 years

ARISS contact is scheduled for students at Mary Hare School (for the deaf), Newbury, UK

This will be a direct contact via amateur radio between students at the Mary Hare School, Newbury, UK and Astronaut Mark Vande Hei, amateur radio call sign KG5GNP. Amateur radio operators in Newbury using the GB4MHN call sign will operate the ham radio ground station for this contact

Sunspots were visible every day this week, but numbers were lower. Average daily sunspot numbers declined from 58.4 to 30.7, and average daily solar flux was down 2.9 points to 86.9

The Big Island Amateur Radio Club (BIARC) will hold its monthly meeting today, Saturday, 09 October 2021, via the ZOOM conference protocol.  The BIARC Board will meet at 1200 HST, while the general membership gathering begins at 1400 HST.
