News for Thursday 27 June

Tony’s 10m Band Report
The early part of the week was really good with activity tailing off at the weekend.

Plenty of GB19 stations about.
I operated GB19LL for a spell with over 100 contacts using FT8 mainly on Ten Metres.

Library to use ham radio to contact ISS
The Independent newspaper reports Santa Barbara Librarywill use amateur radio to talk to astronaut Nick Hague KG5TMV on the International Space Station

Sandton Amateur Radio Club will once again be offering a logging workshop for all the newbies or any interested radio amateur on Saturday 29 June from 09:00 to 12:00 at the National Amateur Radio Centre

Contesting in July
July is a busy month with seven contests.
The month starts off with the SARL Newbie QSO Party on Saturday 6 July and on Sunday 7 July, the ZS5 Sprint

European Games special event stations
Look for the following special event stations to be active until June 30th. Activity is to celebrate the 2nd European Games in Minsk

 

News for Wednesday 26 June

New Lighthouses for ILLW 2019
240 entries have been received so far for the 2019 International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend to be held on 17-18 August including two new lights that have not been in the event previously

Built in 1934 (station established 1908).
An active lighthouse with a focal plane 26 m (85 ft). It is a 25 m (82 ft) cylindrical concrete tower with lantern and gallery.

Friedrichshafen Ham Radio event – attendance falls again
14,300 people attended the Ham Radio 2019 event in Friedrichshafen, down from the 15,460 in 2018 and the 17,400 in 2009

No strong opposition to 144–146 MHz Reallocation Proposal at CEPT meeting

Sable Island DXpedition
Murray, WA4DAN, team leader of the 2020 Sable Island DXpedition, has received permission to make a one day trip out to the Sable Island National Park Reserve in preparation for the 2020 DXpedition to the island
