Hawaii Island Amateur/Ham Radio News:

Doug Wilson (KH7DQ) begins another free Technician License Class on Friday, 23 May 2019, in Waimea (location TBA…please contact Doug at his email address at the end of this article).  The last Technician License Class will be held on 17 October 2019 at the Keaau Community Center in Keaau, Hawaii Island.  For details, please contact Doug at

Hawaii Island radio amateurs are encouraged to sign up for the new ARRL EMCOMM Course (EC-001).  The course begins in June and will focus on the “practical aspects of radio communications as well as the skills needed to better serve local communities in emergencies.” According to ARRL Pacific Section Manager Joseph Speroni (AH0A), “The new EC-001 course addresses Hawaii’s situation as an island state…students will be assigned mentors in Hawaii who are knowledgeable in relationships with our local served agencies…”  To register, contact Pacific Section Emergency Coordinator (SEC), Clem Jung (KH7HO), who “will handle student registration for the EC-001 course and coordinate with the ARRL Education department.”  For details, contact Clem at
