Hawaii Island Amateur/Ham Radio Notes:
The Big Island Amateur Radio Club (BIARC) will participated in the 2018 ARRL Field Day on 23-24 June 2018 at Hilo’s Reed’s Bay Hotel. The event is free and open to the public.
Jim Sugg (AH6AE) is looking for a ham radio volunteer “to demo how ham radio works at (the) upcoming emergency preparedness fair in Waimea (Hawaii Island). The event will be held Saturday, 25 August 2018, 0800-1200 HST, at the Mana Christian Ohana Hall across from the Kahilu Theatre. For details, call Jim at (808) 747-4500 (mobile).
The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency and FEMA have opened a Disaster Recovery Center at the Keaau High School gym for those who suffered losses from the current eruption and lava flows in Lower Puna. According to local civil defense officials, lava has destroyed 467 homes in the Leilani Estates and Vacationland subdivisions. Lava flows have cut off the area from major highways and roads.
