The Islands On The Air (IOTA) program is a fascinating, educational, and enjoyable way to contact rare locations around the world.  Each week, Tedd Mirgliotta (KB8NW), the editor of the Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin (OPDX) brings you the current IOTA news and events.  Some of the upcoming island locations include:

AS-023:  JA4GXS/6 operating from Amani O Island, 20-25 March 2018.

EU-054:  IF9A operating from Favignana Island (Sicily) from 20-25 March 2018.

EU-064:  F4GYM and F4GTB using their homecalls/6 will be on the air from Noirmautier Island, 27 July – 30 July 2018.

EU-120:  B9OSA operating from the Isle of White, 05-13 May 2018.

OC-265:  VK5MAV operating from rare Cato Reef, 09-18 April 2018.

Everyone is invited to HPP Radio Day on Saturday, 28 April 2018, 0900-1500 (HST) at the Hawaiian Paradise Park Community Center, 17th and Maku’u in the Puna District.  According to coordinator Mike Straton (KH6PAC), “We want to let everyone know that the event is open to all hams, especially the newest ham operators…Out plan is to have several different radios set up…There will be lots of activities and demonstrations.”  For details, contact Mike at

The Big Island Amateur Radio club invites all Hawaii radio amateurs to join the new BIARC QTH.NET Email Listserve.  According to coordinator Les Hittner (K0BAD), “The main advantage of using such a listserve is that you do not have to individually maintain a list of club-member email addresses in order to enter into important conversations related to club operations.”  Les adds that “The listserve is a secure means of sending club mail”  To register for the new listserve, contact Les at
