Upcoming events for Hawaii Island radio amateurs:
The Big Island of Hawaii International Swap Meet/Hamfest is coming to the Waimea Community Center in Kamuela on Saturday, 13 January 2018. The event is sponsored by the Kohala Hamakua Radio Club and includes a ham radio equipment/electronics swap meet, guest speakers, and a VE testing session for amateur radio licenses. Doors open to the public at 0930 HST, with VE testing starting at 1300 HST. Admission is $10 for vendors and $5 for the general public. For details, contact Steve Milner (WH6N)–wh6n@arrl.net.
Hawaii Island radio amateurs are urged to enroll in the East Hawaii CERT Basic Training Course in Hilo. The course will be held over four Saturdays at the Aupuni Conference Room in Hilo:
20 January, 27 January, 03 February, and 10 February 2018. Classes will run from 0830 HST to 1630 HST. To reserve your space, go to Eventbrite: https://certhilo.evenbrite.com.
A new series of Technician License prep classes will be offered around Hawaii Island, beginning 15 February 2018 at the Aupuni Conference Room in Hilo; 22 March 2018 at the West Hawaii Civic Center in Kona; 03 May 2018 at the HOVE Community Center in Ocean View; and 01 November 2018 at the Kea’au Community Center in Kea’au. For details, contact Doug Wilson (KH7DQ)–douscelle@aol.com. The test fee is $15.00 in exact cash. Please bring a picture ID with you before you begin class.
