A workshop on The Future of Amateur Radio held at the 2017 IARU Region 1 General Conference in Landshut has concluded that most member amateur radio societies will experience a “freefall” in membership and fail to attract new blood to the amateur radio community.
Among the suggestions for arresting the decline in amateur radio numbers and reinvigorating an interest in the scientific and technical aspects of amateur radio among potential licensees were these ideas:
• Belonging to an elite group
• A welcomed part of the local club
• Learning and discovery – particularly latest technology
• Quick results/success
• Space is fun + ballooning
• Discover that kits are fun and easy
• Use amateur radio to teach
Upcoming events for Hawaii radio amateurs:
