The Islands on The Air (IOTA) program is a fascinating way to find some adventure and fairly rare contacts while you’re on the air. Participating in IOTA activities also serves as good practice for the 2017 ARRL Field Day event, which is set for Saturday and Sunday, 24-25 June 2017.
Here are some of the interesting IOTA locations you should try this weekend:
AS-200 (Shikoku Coastal Islands).
EU-002 (OH0) Aland Island.
EU-008 (GM/MM) Inner Hebrides.
NA-079 (W4-Dry Tortuga Islands, Florida State).
OC-202 (DU4) Calagua Island.
OC-233 (VK7) Tasmanian Coastal Islands.
In operating news of Hawaii Island, don’t forget “Radio Day”, Saturday, 29 April 2017, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Eden Roc park and community pavilion. The event is sponsored by the East Hawaii District Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) and the Puna Emergency Radio Club. Contact Kim at wh6kim@gmail.com for details. The 2017 ARRL Field Day site for all Hawaii Island Amateur Radio Clubs will be at the same location: the Eden Roc park and community pavilion. Field Day is set for Saturday and Sunday, 24-25 June 2017.
Please send your Hawaii Island Amateur Radio news items to kh6jrm@arrl.net at least two weeks prior to your event so I can notify our local print and broadcast media in a timely fashion.
