Annual ARRL SET

Thanks to Pacific Section Emergency Coordinator Clement Jung (KH7HO) for this update on our annual Simulated Exercise Test.

The annual ARRL Simulated Exercise Test (SET) will be held in Hawaii on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 0900 to 1200 hours HST.  All amateur radio operators are invited to participate.

The purpose of SET is to continue training with all Amateur Radio Operators and volunteers to work with state and county officials to ensure communications are maintained on Oahu and all other Hawaiian Islands.  Amateur Radio Operators will assist in passing emergency and time sensitive traffic to the appropriate officials.  Examples of messages are Situation Reports, Damage Reports and Request for Assistance.

The scenario will be the Great Aleutian Tsunami generated from a 9.2 moment earthquake in the Aleutian Islands north of the State of Hawaii.

This mega-tsunami is especially threatening to Hawaii. The University of Hawaii reports that there is a 9 percent chance of such an event happening in the next 50 years.

For more information, contact Clement Jung (KH7HO) at 808-663-8163 or via email — chmjung4@yahoo.com.

Big Island Ham Fest

Just a reminder that the Big Island Ham Fest will be held on 12 November 2016, from 0900-1400 HST, at the Waimea Park Facility on Kawaihae Road in Kamuela.  The guest speaker will be Pacific Section Manager Joe Speroni (AH0A), who will be discussing the ARRL and ARES.
